The House of Representatives has issued a stern warning to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), stating that their heads will face severe consequences if they fail to appear before the National Assembly for budget defense.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Abubakar Kabiru Bichi, made this known during an interview with journalists after a meeting with chairpersons of various House committees.
Hon. Bichi emphasized that President Bola Tinubu has directed all heads of MDAs to appear before the National Assembly in compliance with constitutional requirements to defend their budget proposals.
“The penalty for non-compliance will depend on the explanations provided during the budget defense process,” Bichi stated.
He further disclosed that the National Assembly aims to pass the 2025 Budget Estimate by the end of January or the first week of February.
The Appropriations Committee Chair urged heads of MDAs to cooperate with the legislature to ensure a smooth budget defense process.
