The Federal Fire Service (FFS),has announced that it successfully saved properties valued at ₦1.94 trillion from fire incidents across Nigeria in 2024.
This was disclosed by the Controller General, Mr. Jaji AbdulGaniyu, during the Service’s maiden media briefing for 2025, held in Abuja.
While fire incidents resulted in property losses estimated at ₦67.1 billion last year, Mr. AbdulGaniyu revealed that the Service also saved 33,890 lives. He highlighted the FFS’s commitment to leveraging advanced technology to improve emergency response times and minimize fire risks.
To enhance operations in 2025, the FFS plans to roll out the National Fire Detection and Alarm System (NAFDAS) and the N-Alert Fire Alarm mobile application, aimed at ensuring quicker response times and operational efficiency in managing fire emergencies.
The Controller General cautioned Nigerians to remain vigilant during the harmattan season, a period characterized by heightened fire risks due to low humidity, static sparks, and potential gas explosions. He encouraged proactive measures to prevent fire outbreaks.
Additionally, Mr. AbdulGaniyu reiterated the Service’s determination to establish fire stations in every senatorial zone nationwide. He commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the procurement of modern firefighting equipment and the remodeling of the National Fire Service Academy in Sheda, Abuja.
