Communities in North West Nigeria, particularly those in Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kebbi, and parts of Kaduna and Niger states, are breathing a sigh of relief as Operation Fansan Yamma intensifies its efforts to confront Lakurawa militants and bandits threatening their safety.
The joint task force, led by the Theatre Commander Major General Oluyinka Soyele, has pledged to eradicate the criminal elements destabilizing the region. The recent operational visit to the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion’s tactical headquarters in Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State further demonstrated the military’s commitment to flushing out these dangerous groups.
General Soyele reassured the troops that their mission was to decisively rid the region of terrorists and criminals. He issued a firm directive, commanding the troops to either eliminate the Lakurawa militants or force them to leave their strongholds.

The impact of Lakurawa and other bandit groups on the local communities has been dire. Alhaji Buhari Ahmad Gudula, the Chairman of Gudu Local Council, shared the grave concerns of the people, noting that the Lakurawa group uses the pretext of religion to justify their criminal acts, including rustling livestock and spreading discord.
“This group’s activities are not in any way connected to the true teachings of Islam,” he said, expressing hope that the military’s intervention would bring an end to the lawlessness that has plagued the area.
The operations have offered a sense of hope to the communities, as many believe that the concerted efforts of Operation Fansan Yamma will soon see the defeat of Lakurawa militants and restore peace and stability to the North West.
