The Ondo State Government has disbursed a non-interest loan totaling N35 million to widows of fallen heroes, reaffirming its commitment to their welfare.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by Deputy Governor Olayide Adelami, announced the loan approval during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration held at the Akure Cenotaph. The event was attended by military personnel, widows and children of fallen heroes, traditional leaders, and members of the Nigerian Legion.
Governor Aiyedatiwa commended the military and paramilitary forces for their sacrifices in safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity. He assured the widows of continued government support to improve their livelihoods.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Lola Fagbemi, expressed gratitude to the governor for prioritizing the welfare of fallen heroes’ families. She urged Nigerians to appreciate the sacrifices made by military personnel.
Three widows—Mrs. Christiana Ogunjobi, Mrs. Sarah Tanko, and Mrs. Elizabeth Owolemi—thanked the state government for the initiative and pledged to use the loan wisely while ensuring timely repayment.
The event featured symbolic moments such as a minute of silence, a gun salute for the departed soldiers, the laying of wreaths, the release of balloons symbolizing peace, and the distribution of the loans to the widows.
