
In a significant legal development, founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, has officially withdrawn the defamation charges previously filed against human rights lawyer and activist, Dele Farotimi.
This decision brings an end to the legal proceedings initiated in response to allegations made by Farotimi in his book, Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System, which was published in August 2024.
The controversy began when Farotimi’s publication accused Babalola of corrupting the judiciary, leading to his arrest in Lagos on December 3, 2024, and subsequent arraignment in Ado Ekiti.

In a statement released by Babalola’s legal representatives, says the decision to withdraw the charges was made in the interest of peace and reconciliation.
