Timilehin Ajayi, the alleged killer of NYSC corps member Salome Adaidu, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of culpable homicide, which is punishable by death.
The case was heard before Justice Simon Aboki at the Lafia High Court.
Ajayi, a 32-year-old gospel singer, was remanded at the Lafia Correctional Centre after his first appearance on January 17.
He is accused of murdering Adaidu, a corps member serving at NICON Insurance in Abuja.
During the hearing, Stanley Nwafor-Agu, the prosecution counsel, stated that the Nasarawa State Police Command had strong evidence to support the charge.
Joseph Tukur, the defense counsel, however, emphasized the importance of following due process throughout the trial.
Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Jibrin Okutepa, who spoke to news men after the session, assured that he and other advocates are representing the deceased’s family to ensure justice is served.
The case has been adjourned to March 17 and 20 for accelerated hearing.
Ajayi was arrested on January 12 with a polythene bag containing the dismembered body of Adaidu, whom he claimed to be his girlfriend.
