
A Nigerian Army soldier has been confirmed dead, and several others injured after a private vehicle collided with a group of troops during the Bi-Annual Route March near Myhoung Barracks in Yaba, Lagos State.
The incident took place on Friday morning during a routine training exercise aimed at improving the operational readiness of the Army’s formations across Lagos.
In a statement, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, confirmed that the deceased soldier has been taken to the mortuary, while the injured are receiving treatment at the 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Yaba.
The 81 Division Military Police, alongside other security agencies, is investigating the incident.
Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, the General Officer Commanding the 81 Division, extended his condolences and assured that this tragedy will not affect the Division’s dedication to its responsibilities in safeguarding lives and property.
