
Gunmen have launched multiple attacks on communities in Gusau and Bukuyyum Local Government Areas of Zamfara State, resulting in several deaths and abductions.
The attacks, which began Sunday night and extended into Monday morning, left residents in shock. According to counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, six women were kidnapped in Shemori village on Sunday. In a separate assault on Monday, bandits killed two residents and abducted several others in Kairu community, Zugu district.
In Mada town, Gusau LGA, assailants set fire to the home of Aliyu Usman, killing his two children, aged two and five. His wife and a neighbor’s one-year-old baby were also abducted.
Zamfara Police Command spokesperson Yazid Abubakar stated that he had yet to receive full details of the incidents.
Meanwhile, in a related incident in Kaduna State, the village head of Dutsan Gaya, Maitala Ariga Makama, was found dead on Sunday after being kidnapped by a vigilante group. His body was discovered on the outskirts of Sabon Garin Rimau.
The Kaduna Police Command has convened an emergency meeting with community and youth leaders to maintain peace. A senior military officer confirmed that an investigation is underway to apprehend those responsible.
The attacks underscore the growing insecurity in northern Nigeria, with urgent calls for government intervention to restore peace and protect affected communities.
