Popular Nigerian music star Abdulazeez Fashola, known as Naira Marley, has been cleared of any involvement in the death of Aloba IleriOluwa, popularly known as Mohbad.
Presiding Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje ruled that Naira Marley had no case to answer, a decision based on legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Also discharged were music promoter Sam Larry, Mohbad’s friend Primeboy, and former manager Opere Babatunde.
However, auxiliary nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe, who treated Mohbad before his death, will face prosecution. Additionally, Ayobami Sadiq, one of Mohbad’s friends, is to be prosecuted for reckless and negligent acts under Section 251 (e) of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015.
Mohbad’s death sent shockwaves through the Nigerian music industry, with widespread allegations of harassment and mistreatment. Public outcry led to protests and the #JusticeForMohbad movement, prompting Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to involve the Department of State Services (DSS) in the investigation.
Following the directive of Lagos State Chief Coroner, Justice Mojisola Dada, Mohbad’s body was exhumed, and a preliminary inquiry began on September 29, 2023. However, the toxicology report was inconclusive in determining his exact cause of death.
