A coalition of Civil Society Organisations has called on Senate President Godswill Akpabio to remain focused and committed to delivering legislative interventions for Nigerians despite recent controversies.
The CSOs, operating under the Stay Alert Human Rights Awareness Initiative, gave the advice in a statement issued in Abuja, by its Executive Director, Lary Onah.
Onah expressed confidence in Akpabio’s leadership, describing his tenure as Senate President as impactful and notably gender-inclusive.
He criticized allegations of sexual harassment against Akpabio, labeling them as a deliberate attempt to distract the Senate and pressure its leadership. He further urged Akpabio not to be swayed by what he termed “cheap blackmail” but to remain dedicated to his duties for the benefit of Nigerians and national development.
The CSOs also announced plans for a solidarity march in support of the Senate President and the current administration, reinforcing their belief in Akpabio’s ability to navigate governance challenges. Onah stated that despite the allegations as denied by Akpabio, Nigerians and lawmakers trust his leadership.
