As the world marks International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025, the National Association for Women in Sports (NAWIS) has called on its members nationwide to actively engage in activities celebrating the occasion.
NAWIS President, Professor Mariam Suleiman, in a statement, emphasized the importance of this year’s theme, “Accelerate Action: Invest in Women,” noting that it highlights women’s vital role in society. She also urged sporting authorities to prioritize gender inclusion and welfare for female athletes.
To commemorate IWD, NAWIS chapters will organize rallies, seminars, and advocacy programs across Nigeria. Members will also participate in events led by the Women Commission of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) in Owerri, Lagos, and Abuja.
In Abuja, activities will include a medical outreach and an all-gender novelty football match at the Old Parade Ground, Area 10, Garki, starting at 8 AM.
