President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has granted automatic employment to 774 fellows under the National Health Programme, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare sector.
Speaking at the programme’s presidential inauguration in Abuja, Tinubu confirmed that the selected fellows have been formally engaged and will be responsible for monitoring Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across all local government areas in the country.
The President highlighted that key government officials, including the Minister of Health, who serves as the programme’s coordinator, and the Minister of Finance, have endorsed the initiative.
He emphasized that the programme aims to equip participants with the expertise and exposure needed to drive transformation in the healthcare system.
Reaffirming the critical role of healthcare in national development, Tinubu stressed that no country can achieve progress if its citizens are unhealthy.
This announcement follows the commencement of training for the first cohort of the National Health Fellows Programme, a one-year initiative designed to foster innovation and impactful reforms in the health sector.
Addressing the fellows, the Coordinating Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, urged them to maximize this opportunity provided by President Tinubu.
He noted that the initiative underscores the government’s dedication to human capital development as a key component of the President’s health reform agenda.
