
Renowned Nollywood actress, Nkechi Nweje, has passed away after a brief illness.
The news was confirmed on Saturday by movie producer Stanley Ajemba, also known as Stanley Ontop, who shared the heartbreaking update on Instagram.
In his post, Ajemba wrote:”Nollywood in tears as we lost one of our vibrant actresses, @nkechi.nweje, after a brief illness.
Couldn’t post since morning because it felt like a dream to me. Rest in peace, ma’am.”Tributes have since poured in from colleagues and fans.
Veteran actress Rita Edochie shared a candlelight image, captioning it, “This world is really not our home.” Other Nollywood stars, including Destiny Etiko and Anita Joseph, also expressed their condolences.
Nkechi Nweje was celebrated for her powerful portrayals, particularly in motherly roles.
She featured in several notable films, including My Brother’s Wife (2019), Ritual of Vengeance (2021), and Sorrows of Nene (2014).
Her last known public engagement was the premiere of The Debt on YouTube.
She was married to Dr. Azuibuike Nweje and is survived by six children.
