Eric Chelle, the head coach of Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, is contemplating terminating his contract due to uncertainties surrounding his tenure beyond the FIFA World Cup qualifying series.
Nigerian journalist Osasu Obayiuwana disclosed that sources within the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) indicate Chelle’s concerns have led to a potential change of heart. In response, the NFF is set to convene a crisis meeting to address the situation.
Nigeria’s position in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers is precarious, with the team currently fourth in Group C, having amassed seven points from six matches. South Africa leads the group with 13 points, followed by Rwanda and Benin Republic, each with eight points.
The mounting pressure on Coach Chelle has prompted him to travel to Europe in an effort to strengthen the Super Eagles’ defense.
