Suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has defended her recent visit to her hometown, Ihima, despite a ban imposed by the Kogi State Government on convoys, public gatherings, and rallies, citing security concerns.
The Kogi State Police Command, aligning with the government’s directive, emphasized the prohibition and urged strict compliance from all stakeholders.
Police Commissioner Miller Dantawaye stated that the ban was based on intelligence reports indicating potential security threats in the state.
In defiance of these restrictions, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan arrived in Ihima via helicopter on Tuesday afternoon.
Addressing a large gathering of supporters who had assembled since morning, she asserted her right to visit and celebrate with her constituents during the festive period.
Speaking in her native Egbira language, she emphasized her connection to the community and dismissed attempts to deter her visit.
The senator’s actions have sparked discussions regarding the balance between governmental security measures and individual rights to freedom of movement and assembly.
As of now, there has been no official response from the Kogi State Government or the Police Command regarding her defiance of the ban.
