As Christians across Nigeria marked Palm Sunday, clerics have called on leaders to embrace sacrificial and selfless leadership, drawing inspiration from the virtues of Jesus Christ.
At Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Pro-Cathedral in Abuja, the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese, Most Reverend Ignatius Kaigama, urged leaders to prioritise the welfare of citizens and adopt Christ’s model of servant leadership as the Holy Week begins.
Archbishop Kaigama, also condemned the recent violence in Plateau State and rising insecurity across the country, advising government to adopt advanced technologies, while taking decisive action to restore peace as well as stability.
Palm Sunday marks the beginning of the Holy Week, commemorating Jesus Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem.
Meanwhile, in Port Harcourt, the Parish Priest of St Francis Catholic Church, Rumuokwuta, Reverend Father Paul Okeregwu, has underscored the significance of sacrifice as demonstrated by Jesus Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem.
Father Okeregwu, explained that despite having the power to resist his arrest and crucifixion, Jesus chose to submit himself to human authority, highlighting the ultimate example of love and sacrifice for humanity.
The Palm Sunday service featured traditional blessing and distribution of palm fronds, the passion narratives, and a solemn procession through some major streets.
