Nigerian travellers heading to the United States will now face new visa interview requirements, set to take effect from April 22, 2025.
The United States Mission in Nigeria announced the changes on Friday, outlining fresh guidelines for visa applicants in both Abuja and Lagos.
Under the new policy, applicants must present a DS-160 visa application form carrying a confirmation barcode number starting with the letters “AA” followed by two zeroes.
This barcode must match the one used when booking their visa appointment online.
The mission warned that any applicant with mismatched or unverified details would be denied entry into the consular section and would not be allowed to attend their visa interview.
To avoid disappointment, applicants have been advised to double-check their DS-160 barcode at least two weeks before their scheduled appointment.
Those with incorrect or outdated barcodes are required to log into their AVITS account no less than 10 days before their appointment to request a correction.
