The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has announced the temporary closure of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu for emergency runway repairs.
In a statement, FAAN explained that all flights scheduled for Enugu will now be diverted to nearby airports following a sudden rupture in the runway’s asphalt surface.
Spokeswoman for FAAN, Obiageli Orah, disclosed that the repair works will run from April 22 to May 6, 2025, in strict compliance with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations.
She stressed that both landings and takeoffs will be completely suspended throughout the period to ensure passenger safety and maintain operational standards.
FAAN has apologized for the short notice and any inconvenience the closure may cause, appealing to passengers, airline operators, and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation.
The Authority assures that the repairs are part of ongoing efforts to modernize airport infrastructure and enhance flight safety nationwide.
