PDP stakeholders in strategic meeting ahead of 2027 elections
In a move aimed at repositioning the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general election, key stakeholders and political heavyweights within the party convened in Abuja with a united stance: the PDP presidential ticket must be zoned to the South.
The strategic meeting, hosted by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Dr. Nyesom Wike, at his official residence in Life Camp, also reaffirmed Senator Sam Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary.
Amid ongoing internal crises threatening party cohesion, the high-powered gathering reviewed pressing issues and issued a communiqué citing persistent constitutional violations—particularly of Sections 36, 47, and 48—as the root cause of the PDP’s disarray.
“We are committed to restoring unity, constitutional discipline, and fairness within the party,” the stakeholders declared.
They argued that zoning the presidency to the South is a matter of equity, federal character, and justice, especially after eight years of northern leadership under former President Muhammadu Buhari. The stakeholders emphasized that such a move would enhance national inclusion and credibility ahead of 2027.
Dr. Wike praised the ongoing efforts of the National Reconciliation Committee, led by former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and urged all members to uphold the constitution, support recognized party leadership, and reject divisive tendencies.
“Respect for constitutional order and party unity is non-negotiable if we must win in 2027,” Wike noted.
The resolutions from the meeting are expected to significantly influence the PDP’s roadmap toward rebuilding its political fortunes nationwide.
