
Dr. Amos Adamu accepts Grand Patron role for Okwaraji U-16 Football Championship
Former Director General of the Nigerian National Sports Commission, Dr. Amos Adamu, has taken up the role of Grand Patron for the Samuel Okwaraji Under-16 Annual All Nigeria Secondary School Football Championship.
The appointment was made during a courtesy visit by the Samuel Okwaraji Foundation to his residence in Abuja.
Dr. Adamu hailed the late Samuel Okwaraji as a symbol of patriotism and selfless service to Nigerian sports.
He pledged full support for the Foundation’s vision, calling on government and corporate bodies to invest in grassroots football as a tool for youth empowerment and national unity.
Present at the visit was former Super Eagles coach and player, Samson Siasia, who commended Dr. Adamu’s unwavering support for Nigerian sports development.
He described the championship as a vital platform to discover and nurture the next generation of football talent.
Also speaking, the Secretary of the Foundation, Chidozie Achonwa, described Okwaraji as a national icon whose legacy continues to inspire the youth. He lauded Dr.
Adamu for his role in repatriating Okwaraji’s personal belongings from Belgium and reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to promoting his values through sport.
The nationwide championship will bring together secondary school teams from across Nigeria, with the grand finale scheduled to take place in Abuja.
Other dignitaries at the event included former basketball star Stella Agu, and sports advocate Dr. Okechukwu Duru.
