Actress Iyabo Ojo says she has been subjected to threats and harassment over her support for Mohbad’s justice campaign
Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has spoken out after being targeted in a series of threatening viral videos and public protests tied to her involvement in the ongoing #JusticeforMohbad campaign.
In the past 48 hours, multiple videos have circulated on social media showing a group of men marching through the streets of Lagos with placards featuring Ms. Ojo’s face alongside that of late singer Mohbad, who died under controversial circumstances in 2023.
One of the men ominously declared that the fire which recently destroyed Ojo’s Lagos office was “just the beginning” of divine retribution.
Responding via a detailed Instagram post, Ms. Ojo described the public threats as part of a larger pattern of harassment she has endured since calling for an investigation into the 27-year-old singer’s death.
She revealed that the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre in Abuja had invited her for questioning following multiple petitions accusing her of cyberbullying and defamation.
“I never accused anyone of killing Mohbad,” she clarified in the post. “All I did was ask a few people to cooperate with police investigations to help clear their names.”
The actress, who is also a mother of two, recounted receiving anonymous hate messages and threats—one of which was delivered just before her daughter’s wedding in Tanzania, warning her that she would “go through hell in the next three months.”
Ojo insisted her advocacy was rooted in concern for truth and justice, adding that she will continue to speak out against intimidation, even in the face of personal risk.
The incident has renewed concerns over freedom of expression, online harassment, and the risks faced by public figures who align with controversial social causes in Nigeria.
