
Nigeria is in mourning following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in London on Sunday July 13, at approximately 4:30pm, after a prolonged illness.
A statement by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, on Information and Strategy, says Tinubu expresses deep condolences to the former First Lady, Aisha Buhari, in a personal phone call.
It says President Tinubu, has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel to the United Kingdom to accompany the late president’s remains back to Nigeria.
Muhammadu Buhari served as Nigeria’s democratically elected President for two terms, from 2015 to 2023.
He was also the country’s military Head of State from January 1984 to August 1985.
As a mark of respect, President Tinubu has ordered that all national flags fly at half-mast.
