The President of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), Hamad Kalkaba, has unveiled plans to expand international scholarship schemes and elite training programs for African athletes.
Speaking at a press conference to wrap up the 3rd African U-18 and U-20 Athletics Championships held in Abeokuta, Nigeria, Kalkaba emphasized the CAA’s commitment to nurturing future stars across the continent.
According to him, the organization is actively collaborating with top global sports institutions to create inclusive opportunities, particularly for young talents from disadvantaged backgrounds.
“Our focus is on long-term athlete development, providing access to global-standard coaching and exposure,” Kalkaba stated.
On the matter of future events, he announced that Ghana and Botswana will respectively host the Senior African Athletics Championships in 2026 and 2028.
Additionally, Algeria has been confirmed as the official host for the 2027 African U-18/U-20 Championships.
