The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has suspended its warning strike following the intervention of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The ARD President, Dr. George Ebong, confirmed that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) met critical demands, including:
- Payment of six months’ salary arrears.
- Approval of outstanding accoutrement allowances.
- Reduction of medical residency bonding to two years.
- Recruitment of more doctors and health workers.
- Settlement of locum doctors’ overdue wages.
Dr. Ebong announced that doctors are to resume work on Saturday, January 25, 2025, averting an indefinite shutdown of FCTA hospitals.
While commending Minister Wike’s swift action, Dr. Ebong urged further attention to unresolved issues, including hazard allowances, hospital infrastructure upgrades, and promotion of post-Part 2 residents to consultant status.
The ARD pledged its support for Wike’s vision to reform FCT healthcare under the “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
