The English Football Association (FA), has charged Liverpool, Everton, and Liverpool’s head coach, Arne Slot, for failing to maintain discipline during their Premier League clash at Goodison Park on Wednesday.
According to the FA, both clubs failed to control their players, who engaged in inappropriate and provocative behavior after the final whistle. Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, has also been charged with improper conduct after allegedly using abusive language towards referee Michael Oliver and one of his assistants, leading to his dismissal. His assistant, Sipke Hulshoff, who was also sent off, faces similar charges for his conduct before and after his dismissal.
The incident escalated after Everton’s James Tarkowski scored a dramatic 98th-minute equalizer, which was confirmed following a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review. At the final whistle, Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure celebrated in front of Liverpool fans, sparking a heated exchange with Liverpool’s Curtis Jones. The confrontation resulted in both players receiving second yellow cards and being sent off.
The FA has given the clubs and individuals involved a deadline to respond to the charges as it continues its efforts to uphold discipline and sportsmanship in English football.
