A fatal road crash on the Kano-Maiduguri Road, under the Muhammadu Buhari Interchange Flyover in Hotoro, has claimed the lives of 23 people and left 48 others injured.
The crash, which occurred at approximately 9:50 p.m. on February 13, 2025, involved a trailer carrying goods and passengers. According to the Kano State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Umar Matazu, the driver lost control due to excessive speeding, leading to the tragic collision.
Of the 71 individuals on board—67 adults and four children—23 were confirmed dead, while the injured were immediately transported to Murtala Mohammed General Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Commander Matazu cautioned against the dangerous practice of overloading trailers with passengers, goods, and animals, warning that it significantly increases the likelihood of fatal accidents.
The FRSC has since cleared the accident site, restoring normal traffic flow. The commission reaffirmed its commitment to road safety and urged motorists to strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.
