
A group of persons with disabilities (PWDs), have called on Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and security agencies to urgently investigate and arrest those responsible for the murder of their colleague, Efe Ogbeide.
The late building engineer was reportedly shot multiple times while on duty in Obazagbon, a suburb of Benin City.
The group staged a peaceful protest at the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, displaying placards with messages such as “Communities in Edo now above the law” and “We need justice for Efe Ogbeide.”
Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Melody Omosah, Executive Director of the Network for the Advancement of Persons with Visible Disabilities, described Ogbeide as the breadwinner of his family and urged the government to ensure the perpetrators face justice.
Similarly, the Leader of the Talakawas Parliament, Kola Edokpaye, appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts in apprehending those behind the killing.
Receiving the protesters, NUJ Edo State Secretary, Comrade Andy Egbon, commended them for their peaceful demonstration and called on authorities to act swiftly.
Meanwhile, Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Moses Yamu, confirmed that three suspects have been arrested, and investigations are ongoing.
