
A Catholic priest, Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu, has been killed just a day after he was abducted in Kaduna State.
The Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan confirmed his death in a statement issued by its Chancellor, Jacob Shanet, on Wednesday. According to the statement, Father Okechukwu was kidnapped from his residence on Tuesday and was tragically murdered in the early hours of Wednesday, March 5.
“We regret to inform you that Fr. Sylvester was cruelly killed in the early hours of Wednesday, March 5,” the statement read.
Until his death, Father Okechukwu served as the pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church in Tachira, Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The Diocese expressed deep sorrow over the priest’s untimely demise, describing it as an irreplaceable loss to the diocesan community, his family, and all who knew him.
