
Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the death of a police inspector, Ajele Oloyede, who reportedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound while on special duty at Goodwill Ceramic Company in Igbesa, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.
The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, says an investigation has been launched to uncover the circumstances surrounding the officer’s sudden demise.
According to preliminary reports, Inspector Oloyede, attached to the 78 PMF squad in Zamfara State, had assured his colleague, Tolorunloju Stephen, that he was fine before the incident occurred.
Moments later, Stephen, an officer from Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos, stepped into the restroom, only to hear a gunshot. When he rushed back, he found Inspector Oloyede lying in a pool of blood.
With the help of private security personnel, the injured officer was taken to Ota General Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death.
Police authorities say the firearm used in the incident has been recovered, and the body has been deposited for an autopsy.
Meanwhile, Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has ordered a full-scale investigation to determine whether there was any foul play or possible mental health factors involved.
The police have assured the public that a thorough probe is underway to uncover what transpired.
