Violence between the Ifon and Ilobu communities in Osun State has intensified, spreading to Erin Osun, prompting Governor Ademola Adeleke to impose a 24-hour curfew in the affected areas.
The governor had earlier enforced a 12-hour curfew after the conflict erupted, but escalating violence and displacement of residents—including northern migrants—led to stricter measures.
Many were seen evacuating the area in buses, particularly around Okinni.Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed in a statement that a joint security task force has been deployed to restore order.
“Governor Adeleke has stepped up conflict de-escalation efforts, imposing a 24-hour curfew, mobilizing security forces, and facilitating a peace agreement between the warring communities,” the statement read.
The state government has also warned against misinformation, alleging that opposition groups are circulating old videos of past communal clashes to misrepresent the current security situation.
Security forces are now on the ground to enforce the curfew and prevent further escalation.
Governor Adeleke has assured residents of his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, adding that he has briefed the federal government on the crisis.
