Nigeria and Algeria have taken a major step in strengthening diplomatic and economic relations with the launch of Air Algerie’s inaugural direct flight service between Algiers and Abuja.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement by its spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, described the development as a milestone in implementing the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) between both countries.
The new route, operated by Algeria’s national carrier using a Boeing 737 aircraft, is expected to boost tourism, trade, and investment, while also enhancing connectivity between the two nations.
The Ministry acknowledged the role played by the Nigerian Embassy in Algeria in facilitating the service and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting Air Algerie in ensuring the route’s long-term success.
According to the statement, dignitaries including the Charge d’Affaires of the Nigerian Embassy in Algiers, representatives of the Algerian government, and leaders of the Nigerian community in Algeria, will be on board the maiden flight.
The Nigerian government is urging citizens and business communities to take advantage of the twice-weekly service to explore new opportunities in trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. The initiative is also expected to offer Nigerian travelers an easier and more affordable gateway to Europe, positioning Nigeria as a key transit hub in the region.
