
Tragedy has struck the University of Ilesa in Osun State, as a 100-level student, Gbolahan Ojolo, lost his life after being electrocuted during a thunderstorm.
Ojolo, a student of the Department of Business Administration, was said to be playing a game on his mobile phone while it was charging in his hostel room when lightning struck, causing an electrical surge that led to his electrocution.
Confirming the incident in a statement, the University Registrar, Funso Ojo, described the occurrence as tragic and deeply regrettable. The unfortunate incident happened on Friday evening at a private hostel near the Prototype Engineering Development Institute junction in Ilesa.
The university management expressed its condolences to the bereaved family and assured that necessary support would be provided during this difficult time.
The entire university community has been thrown into mourning as prayers pour in for the repose of Gbolahan’s soul.
