.The Federal Executive Council has approved the rehabilitation and upgrade of Terminal B at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The terminal, which caters to domestic flights, has suffered long-term infrastructure decline.
Speaking after the FEC meeting, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, highlighted the need for the project.“Most of the infrastructure at that terminal, including the chillers and carousels, are obsolete and have outlived their lifespan,” he said.
The minister explained that the renovation is intended to improve passenger experience, boost operational efficiency, and modernize airport facilities.
In a move to strengthen aviation security and coordination, the Council also approved the establishment of command and control centres at major regional airports.
These include airports in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, Enugu, and the Aviation Headquarters. “Every airport is now required to have a modern command and control center, and we’re glad that Council approved this crucial upgrade,” Mr. Keyamo added.
The upgrades are in line with safety mandates from the International Civil Aviation Organization, ICAO.
The Ministry also received approval to procure critical navigational aid spare parts to maintain safety across Nigerian airspace.
