The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Executive Committee has extended the deadline for allottees of Maitama Cadastral Zone A10 District to settle their Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) bills by an additional two weeks.
The Director of Land Administration in the FCT, Mr. Chijioke Nwankwoeze, announced this decision during a media briefing in Abuja following the committee’s meeting. He noted that the extension was granted in response to appeals from affected allottees seeking more time to fulfill their financial obligations.
This extension follows an earlier two-week ultimatum issued by the FCT Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, which had lapsed, prompting the withdrawal of Rights of Occupancy for defaulters.
In a related development, the Mandate Secretary of the FCT Transportation Secretariat, Dr. Chinedum Elechi, revealed that the committee has approved the renewal of contracts for two security firms tasked with safeguarding Abuja’s rail tracks and stations. The contracts, initially awarded in March 2022, will be extended for another two years to ensure the safety of the Abuja Rail Mass Transit Scheme. This decision comes after the metro line was vandalized during the COVID-19 lockdown, leading to a suspension of operations.
Furthermore, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Mr. Richard Dauda, announced the committee’s approval of contracts for the construction of two multi-purpose sports centres in strategic locations across Abuja. These facilities will include football pitches, lawn tennis courts, table tennis areas, and indoor sports amenities.
Mr. Dauda emphasized that the centres are designed to enhance the physical and mental well-being of residents, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda. He added that the projects aim to provide accessible recreational facilities for the community
