The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 952 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), the largest promotion exercises in recent years.
However, the Commission declined to promote 176 ASPs who had retired from service and three others confirmed to be deceased.
The decisions were reached at the inaugural plenary of the 6th Board of the Commission, chaired by retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hashimu Argungu, at its headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
In a statement issued Wednesday by the Commission’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, Argungu congratulated the newly promoted officers while urging them to uphold professionalism, nationalism, and strict adherence to police regulations.

He warned that the Commission would no longer tolerate “diversionary and unauthorized actions” by officers, emphasizing that established channels exist for lodging complaints or grievances.
Argungu also reassured officers that the PSC remains committed to protecting their career progression from unnecessary obstacles.
The approval of the promotions has been formally conveyed to the Inspector General of Police for implementation through a letter signed by the PSC Secretary, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani.
