Three people have been killed in a cultist attack on the Igbogene Community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The armed assailants, believed to be members of the notorious Greenlanders group, stormed the area around 8 p.m. last Wednesday, triggering panic as residents fled for safety.
According to reports, the first victim, the son of the former head of the community Vigilante, was shot near his house. The second victim, who was not affiliated with the cult, was killed after failing to provide information about the whereabouts of his elder brother.
The attack is said to be the result of a rivalry between the Bobos and Greenlanders cult groups. Sources indicate that the attackers are residents and indigenes of the Igbogene community.
While police confirmed that three people were killed, the community reported that only two died in the attack, with the third victim currently receiving treatment for gunshot wounds.
The Youth President of Igbogene, Ezekiel Igbenivie, confirmed the incident and stated that those involved have fled the scene, though one of the victims remains alive after being mistakenly shot. This individual, believed to be a member of the Greenlanders, was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The arrival of police teams, including the Doo Apoo, Anti-kidnapping, and Rapid Response Teams, helped calm the situation. The Bayelsa State Police Spokesman, Musa Mohammed, confirmed the identities of the deceased: twenty-eight-year-old Donaldson Mison, twenty-seven-year-old Addy Mulan, and twenty-nine-year-old Greenboy Dudella.
The investigation into the attack is ongoing.
