
Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have eliminated scores of terrorists, including the son of notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, during a clearance operation on Fakai high ground in Zamfara State.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, revealed in a statement that the coordinated operation, conducted on January 17, 2025, involved ground troops and the air component. The operation covered the Shinkafi, Kagara, Fakai, Moriki, Maiwa, and Chindo axis.
Key Achievements of the Operation
- High Casualties: Intense firepower from troops resulted in significant terrorist casualties, with their logistics hub destroyed.
- Rescue of Hostages: Several kidnapped victims held captive by Bello Turji were freed during the operation.
- Bello Turji’s Escape: The terrorist leader abandoned his son and combatants in a desperate act of cowardice.
In a separate development, troops destroyed another terrorist camp belonging to kingpin Idi Mallam in the Zango Kagara Forest.

During the encounter:
- Neutralized: 3 terrorists.
- Arrested: 3 suspected collaborators.
- Weapons Seized: Two machine guns, one AK-47 rifle, and a magazine containing 11 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
- Livestock Rescued: 61 rustled cattle and 44 sheep.
- Other Recoveries: Several sundry items.
The statement emphasized the sustained efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces to protect citizens and maintain safety across the nation.
