The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that political party primaries for the Anambra State governorship election will take place between March 20 and April 14 this year.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this during a meeting with political party leaders in Abuja, urging them to send their schedules to the commission.
This, he explained, would ease better planning for personnel and resource deployment to oversee party primaries and campaign activities.
“The timetable and schedule of activities for the Anambra State governorship election were released last year,” Professor Yakubu noted.
Additionally, the INEC Chairman announced that the Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) would be held on February 21 next year.
Voters in 68 constituencies will choose six area council chairpersons and 62 councilors at designated polling units.
Professor Yakubu also revealed that plans for Continuous Voter Registration and the conduct of outstanding bye-elections would soon be released.
In his remarks, the National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Alhaji Yusuf Dantalle, called on INEC to start early preparations to guarantee credible and transparent general elections in 2027.
